Activity 3: Technology Enhanced Instruction
In this task I studied the ITSE standards and researched many different kinds of new technologies such as AR and VR and how they could be applied to helping students learn. I focused on 21st Century learning and using these new technologies to assist student centered learning. I then chose a lesson plan and made suggestions as to how it could be improved through the use of technology. You can view the work here.
Below are some thoughts about VR and AR.
Below are some thoughts about VR and AR.
- It helps students visualize what they are learning (good for visual learners, or students who struggle to visual things (eg a 3D object in a 3d space)).
- AR/VR enhances instruction by allowing there to be a shift away from the teacher at the center of the lesson, to a more student-centered approach.
- Increases student engagement by motivating students and allowing them to be more creative.
- AR/VR provides a more realistic experience and allows students to overcome some barriers. Eg it's impossible to go back in time, but with VR/AR that becomes possible. Even for things that are possible, but unlikely (Eg a trip to Korea to study Korean architecture) is now possible with VR/AR.
- Different VR/AR apps cater to different kinds of learners.
- Increases motivation among students as they love using this kind of technology.
